This easy refried bean recipe is also super versatile. No garlic? No big deal! Just omit it or add a little garlic powder.

Same goes for cumin and chili powder. The cheese can also be substituted depending on what you have on hand.

While cheddar is my preferred cheese, pepper jack and Colby cheese are also good options. Or make it with no cheese at all for those with dairy allergies.

And while I always have either canned green chilis or frozen Hatch chilies on hand, this too can be omitted or substituted for chipotle peppers, jalapenos or any other type of pepper. Even habanero or roasted poblano for a smoky flavor.

Thank you, thank you, thank you. I have been wanting to make fresh refried beans. We love them in a Mexican restaurant but the canned version is just not the same. I will be making this recipe very soon… How long will this last in the refrigerator after made?
