Ingredients

These simple ingredients that you can find at most grocery stores (and/or the liquor store) are the key to making these sweet treats.

  • Semi-Sweet Baking Chocolate Or Chocolate Chips – These make up the rich, chocolatey base of the truffles. Choose high-quality chocolate for the best flavor.
  • Powdered Sugar – Confectioner’s sugar adds sweetness and helps create the truffle’s signature smooth texture.
  • Light Corn Syrup Or Honey – A little sweet stickiness binds everything together.
  • Vanilla Extract – Vanilla enhances the chocolate flavor and adds warmth to the truffles. Buy it at the grocery store or easily make homemade vanilla extract
  • Fireball Cinnamon Whiskey – This is what gives the truffles their warm flavor. Its cinnamon spice pairs perfectly with the chocolate.
  • Fine Sea Salt – A touch of salt enhances all the flavors and balances the sweetness.
  • Vanilla Wafer Cookie Crumbs – These give the truffles structure and add a slight crunch. Crush them finely for the best texture.
  • Desired Toppings – You can use anything from powdered sugar, chocolate sprinkles, or sweetened coconut flakes to chopped nuts, hot chocolate powder, cocoa powder, or festive sprinkles! You can also drizzle them with melted real white chocolate, meltable candy, or salted caramel sauce
  • Cake Mix – For an infusion of flavor and a nuanced texture, mix in your favorite flavor of boxed cake mix.

Variations

With their unmistakable kick of Fireball’s spicy goodness mixed with a silky milk chocolate ganache, these truffles are basically perfection as they are. But you can also get creative and put your own fun twist on these truffles!

  • Bourbon – Swap the fireball out for your favorite bourbon for a rich, smooth flavor that also pairs well with chocolate.
  • Espresso Powder – A small amount brings out the chocolate flavor and adds a subtle coffee kick.
  • Crackers – For a slightly different texture and flavor that will complement the Fireball, use crushed graham crackers. Or, for a bit of a savory kick, try using a buttery cracker instead.
  • Peppermint Candies – Crush up some of these and fold them in for the perfect holiday twist.
  • Dark Chocolate – For a deeper, less sweet chocolate flavor, use dark chocolate with a high percentage of cacao.
  • Orange Zest – Brighten things up with a hint of citrus.
  • Maple Syrup – For a fall-inspired vibe, drizzle in some maple syrup in place of some or all of the honey or corn syrup.
  • Cream Cheese – Add in some cream cheese for a tangy kick and creaminess.
  • Heat – If you love the combination of sweet-meets-heat Fireball doesn’t add enough spiciness, give your truffles a red hot kick with a dash of Sriracha, cayenne pepper powder, or crushed red pepper flakes.
  • Chocolate – Instead of using traditional chocolate chips, try melting vanilla almond bark, white chocolate bars, or your favorite brand of vanilla candy for a spin on the flavor profile.

How to Make Fireball Chocolate Truffles

Truffles never fail to impress at a party and making this Fireball truffle is probably way easier than anyone would ever guess!

  1. Melt The Chocolate. Place the chocolate in a microwave-safe bowl and heat it in short 30-second intervals, stirring each time until smooth.
  2. Mix The Wet Ingredients and Powdered Sugar. Combine the melted chocolate with powdered sugar, your choice of syrup or honey, vanilla, Fireball, and sea salt in a large bowl. Stir until smooth and well combined.
  3. Incorporate The Cookie Crumbs. Add the cookie crumbs and fold them in until all of the ingredients are combined. Chill the mixture in the fridge for at least an hour to firm up.
  4. Form The Truffles. Scoop out small portions of the mixture using a cookie scoop. Then, roll each of them into a smooth ball, and coat them in your chosen toppings while still tacky. Place them on prepared baking sheets until you’re finished forming them.
  5. Chill And Serve. Store the truffles in an airtight container in the fridge. Let them sit at room temperature for about 15 minutes before serving to soften slightly.

Storage and Freezing

Store these Fireball chocolate truffles in the fridge to keep them fresh and delicious for an evening snack or serving at a party. They also make the perfect gift!

How to Store

Keep the truffles in an airtight container in the fridge to maintain their texture and flavor for up to 1 week. To prevent them from sticking together, separate them with wax paper or parchment paper. You can also wrap them in plastic wrap.

Can I Freeze Fireball Chocolate Truffles?

If you want to store them longer, freeze the truffles in a freezer-safe container for up to 3 months. Let them thaw in the fridge before serving.

Common Questions about Fireball Whiskey Balls

Do Fireball chocolates have alcohol in them?

Yes. Because they are not baked, none of the alcohol is cooked out of the truffles. Be sure to keep them out of the reach of anyone under 21 and label them at parties so that adults who don’t want to partake are aware that they contain alcohol.

Will chocolate truffles melt?

Chocolate truffles will melt if left at room temperature or above before too long. Make sure to store them in the fridge so that they maintain their structure.

Can alcohol chocolate get you drunk?

While chocolate laced with Fireball or other spirits does contain alcohol, it’s unlikely that it will result in drunkenness. Since the quantity in each chocolate is relatively small, it’s more likely that you’d become too full to eat enough to become intoxicated.
