    • A quick and easy dessert – Fried bananas are easy to make and only takes about 5 minutes from start to finish.

    • Sophisticated flavors – This recipe is slightly more sophisticated than most since if uses nutmeg and is also balanced with salt, meaning that it is not only kid-friendly, but also more complex for adults.

    • No need to wait for ripe bananas – We use bananas before they are ripe. We are relying on the caramelization and process and unlike most baked goods that use ripe or overly ripe bananas, this one actually needs the nice, hard bananas that are still a bit green with minimal brown spots.

Gather This

The ingredient list for these honey cinnamon fried bananas is short and sweet. and you m ight already have most of them on hand! A full list of ingredients with measurements for beef pot pie is available in the printable recipe card below.

  • Unsalted butter- Just a little goes a long way for these fried bananas and help to preventing sticking and to thin out the sauce a tad. Omit the dash of salt if you are using salted butter.
  • Bananas- This is one of the few recipes where greener, just yellow firm bananas are actually better than overripe bananas. The heat will bring out natural sugars and help them caramelize and infuse the honey sauce. Soft bananas will just kind of fall apart when cooking.
  • Honey- Infused honey or raw honey are also options, as is agave nectar or maple syrup. Lavender honey is fantastic!
  • Ground cinnamon & nutmeg- Sweet bananas are delicious, but they are even better with warm spices like cinnamon or nutmeg.
  • Coarse kosher salt- Helps to bring out natural flavors of the fried bananas and balance the sweetness. It can be omitted.

Let’s Make Them!

Making these fried bananas is as easy as 1, 2, 3! Just follow these simple steps.

  1. Melt butter in skillet. Heat a large non stick skillet over medium heat Add the butter to skillet and melt.
  2. Add remaining ingredients. When butter is melted, add the bananas, honey, cinnamon, nutmeg and salt. Toss to coat and warm thoroughly.
  3. Allow honey to caramelize. When the honey starts to caramelize and the mixture is warm, remove from the heat and serve.

5S Philosophy 👩🏻‍

  • Salt – Although we add coarse kosher salt to this recipe already, you can swap it for flakey sea salt. Adding this at the end of cooking adds a nice salty crunch to the fried bananas.
  • Seasonings – In addition to the cinnamon and nutmeg, try adding apple pie spice or even a splash of vanilla extract to your bananas.
  • Sauces – These bananas already cook in their own delicious sauce, but try drizzling them with caramel, chocolate sauce or even white chocolate sauce.
  • Senses – The sweet aroma of honey and warm cinnamon filling the air as golden banana slices sizzle in bubbling butter. Their edges caramelize into a crispy, sugary crust, giving way to a soft, melt-in-your-mouth center.

Perfect Pairings

Besides just eating them on their own, fried cinnamon bananas can be enjoyed as part of many other delectable desserts or anything that has a bananas foster type of vibe.

Put them on top of breakfast favorites for a special breakfast treat, or eat them on their own with some chocolate sauce and whipped cream for a delicious treat. These are some of my favorite ways to use them:

Storage and Freezing

How to Store

You can store any leftover fried bananas in an airtight container in the refrigerator. They should stay for up to three days.

Can I Freeze Fried Bananas?

Unfortunately, these do not freeze well. Bananas become quite soggy and brown when thawed.
