What to Gather

This bunny bait snack mix is all about the perfect balance of crunch, sweetness, and a little bit of salty goodness. A full list of ingredients with measurements is available in the printable recipe card below.

  • Chex Cereal – This is the base of the mix! Its crispiness soaks up all of the delicious white chocolate coating without getting soggy.
  • Pretzels – These add a little salty crunch to balance out all the sweetness. Mini pretzels work best, but you can use sticks, too.
  • Cheerios Cereal – These little Os add a different kind of crunch and pair well with the other ingredients.
  • Holiday M&Ms – Pick up a bag of pastel Easter M&Ms for the perfect seasonal touch.
  • Jelly Beans – These add a chewy contrast to all of the crunchiness.
  • Salted Butter – Butter helps to smooth out the chocolate and adds just a bit of richness.
  • Almond Bark or White Chocolate Chips – Use either of these to coat the ingredients.
  • Pink or Purple Melting Chocolate – This is totally optional, but a drizzle of colorful chocolate makes the mix extra festive!
  • Festive Sprinkles – Because sprinkles make everything better! These add a fun finishing touch.

This is How We Do It

This bunny bait recipe comes together in no time. The hardest part is waiting for it to set!

  1. Combine the dry ingredients. Place the Chex, pretzels, and Cheerios into a big mixing bowl. Be sure everything is evenly distributed before adding the chocolate.
  2. Melt the chocolate. Melt the butter on low in a saucepan adding the almond bark or white chocolate and stirring it all together until the mixture is silky smooth. Keep the heat super low — white chocolate is notorious for clumping up if it gets too hot.
  3. Coat the mix. Work in batches, drizzling some of the melted chocolate over the cereal mixture, tossing, and repeating until everything is evenly coated.
  4. Add the candy. Spread the coated mix onto a parchment-lined baking sheet in an even layer. While it’s still tacky, add on the M&Ms, jelly beans, and festive sprinkles.
  5. Drizzle and set. If you’re using colored melting chocolate, drizzle it over the mix for extra flair. Let everything cool and set before breaking it into pieces and storing it.

5S Philosophy 👩🏻‍🍳

  • Salt – A little bit of salt from the pretzels balances out all the sweetness and keeps this mix from being too sugary.
  • Swaps – Switch it up with different mix-ins! Try popcorn for extra crunch, swap jelly beans for mini marshmallows, or use dark chocolate if white chocolate isn’t your thing.
  • Senses – This mix is an experience for your senses, for sure! The crunch of the cereal, the smooth chocolate coating, the pop of candy-coated M&Ms, and the chewy jelly beans — it’s the ultimate snack combination.

Storage and Freezing

This mix stays fresh for days — it’s perfect for gifting or prepping ahead. Make a batch a few days in advance and store it in an airtight container to keep everything crunchy.

How to Store

No need to pop this in the fridge! This mix can be kept at room temperature in a sealed container.

Can I Freeze Bunny Bait Snack Mix?

We don’t recommend freezing this snack. It’s unlikely to have the same satisfying texture when it’s thawed.

Your Questions Answered

Can I use milk or dark chocolate instead of white chocolate?

Absolutely! The flavor will be different, but both are great options if you prefer them.

How do I keep the chocolate from clumping?

Melt it low and slow. White chocolate can be finicky, so using low heat and stirring constantly is key.

Can I make this nut-free?

Yes! Just check your chocolate and candies for any nut warnings, and skip the almond bark. Use white chocolate instead.

Sweet, salty, crunchy, and packed with all the fun, colorful candies of the season, Bunny Bait Snack Mix is the perfect snack for Easter!
Prep Time: 5 minutes
Cook Time: 5 minutes
Total Time: 10 minutes
Servings: 8

Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 cups Chex cereal
  • 1 cup pretzels
  • 1 cup Cheerios cereal
  • 4 tablespoons salted butter
  • 12 ounces almond bark or white chocolate chips
  • 3/4 cup holiday M&Ms
  • 1/2 cup jelly beans
  • 1/4 cup pink or purple melting chocolate
  • festive sprinkles , optional

Instructions

  • Toss together the 2 1/2 cups Chex cereal, 1 cup pretzels and 1 cup Cheerios cereal until blended. Set aside.
  • In a medium saucepan, melt the 4 tablespoons salted butter over low heat. Stir in the 12 ounces almond bark or white chocolate chips until smooth. Heat this very low… white chocolate has more of a tendency to clump if overheated.
  • Working in 3 increments, add some melted chocolate to the dry mix, toss, and repeat until the whole mixture is covered. White chocolate tends to be clumpy instead of smooth, this is normal.
  • Turn it out onto a parchment lined rimmed baking sheet into a single layer and sprinkle with the 3/4 cup holiday M&Ms, 1/2 cup jelly beans and festive sprinkles, if using, while chocolate is still tacky. Melt the 1/4 cup pink or purple melting chocolate, if using, and drizzle over the mixture.
  • Allow the chocolate to set and then break into pieces and store in an airtight container or bag at room temperature until ready to enjoy.
